Dr. Sarah Cahill

Salthill native, Sarah Cahill studied medicine in the graduate program in the University of Limerick, graduating in 2013. After working various hospital jobs and in the Galway Hospice, she commenced the GP training scheme in 2016. She worked in a variety of hospital specialties for the first 2 years, before spending 2 years in general practice. It was during her GP attachments that she developed an interest in Women's Health. This has grown since completing her GP training in 2020. She has completed extra studies in the areas of contraception and menopause. She is qualified in contraceptive intrauterine coil and implant insertion. She is a British Menopause Society (BMS) - accredited menopause specialist.

She worked for 2 years in Galway Family Planning Clinic where she gained a great depth of experience in women's health. This continued as she looked after women and their female-specific health needs in a GP setting.

She set up LifeCycle Women's Health Clinic (with appointments just one morning a week) in June 2023. She expanded her services and moved to her own premises in December 2023. She saw a need for women to be able to access in-depth consultations, with more time to discuss their concerns than she was able to offer as a busy GP.  Not all GP practices are in a position to offer certain services such as coil insertion and Dr. Cahill is happy to provide these services. She offers hormonal and non-hormonal coils, the contraceptive implant as well as pills, patches and vaginal rings and the contraceptive injection.

There is growing interest and awareness of menopause among women and many of them are eager to have a comprehensive and focused consultation with a doctor who is experienced and has an interest in the area. Dr. Cahill also offers appointments to women who are thinking about trying to conceive and want to make sure they are at their optimal health before starting, as well as to those who are having trouble conceiving. There are a variety of gynaecological concerns which women may have which can be dealt with in the clinic - such as troublesome periods, urinary incontinence, PCOS and endometriosis.

STI testing, breast examinations, and cervical screening are also available.
